A top 50 accounting firm is expanding in the Sunshine State after acquiring Tampa-based Brimmer, Burek and Keelan (BBK) LLP.

HBK CPAs and Consultants did not disclose financial terms of the deal, which closed earlier this month. Combining the two firms, according to a statement, expands HBK CPAs & Consultants’ reach to six Florida markets: Boca Raton, Fort Myers, Naples, Stuart, Sarasota and Tampa. (HBK which stands for Hill, Barth & King)

Established in 1961, BB&K is a professional accounting and management consulting firm that provides tax, audit, bookkeeping and business advisory services, according to its website. The company brings 22 professionals, including two partners, to HBK with experience in retail, construction and professional services, according to a release.

“The Tampa Bay market is one we have had our eye on for some time, and BB&K is exactly the kind of firm we look for,” Thomas Angelo, managing principal and CEO of HBK, says in the release. “Their commitment to client relationships and technical excellence is the same foundation HBK has been built on since 1949. This combination gives clients in Tampa access to the full depth of HBK’s resources, and it gives our broader client base a trusted local presence in a market that matters.”

BB&K’s managing partner, Donald Keyes, will join HBK as principal and market leaders of its new Tampa office. Joining HBK gives the Tampa firm access to “capabilities and resources” that will greatly impact the way his team serves their clients, Keyes says in the release.

“We have spent years building deep relationships in this community, and now we can offer those clients a wider breadth of services alongside everything they have always received from us,” Keyes says in the release. “This is the right next step for our people and for our clients.”

HBK, based in Boca Raton, has offices in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, New York and Florida. The firm reported revenue of $175.5 million during its most recent fiscal year, according to INSIDE Public Accounting.
