A new flight took off from Tampa International Airport on Thursday.

Breeze Airways launched its first ever nonstop, international flight from TPA to Nassau in the Bahamas. The new route will operate twice weekly, with flights departing on Thursdays and Sundays through the end of June, according to a statement.

Then, starting in July, flights will increase to four times per week, operating on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

It’s the first time in 20 years that an airline has offered service from TPA to Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau. Along with their new route to the Bahamas, Breeze Airways plans to fly from Tampa International Airport to a total of five international destinations by the end of 2025, the airport says in a release.

“This route is special for me,” TPA Chief Operating Officer John Tiliacos says in the release. “As a Bahamian born and raised in Nassau, I’m so proud to see this service between Tampa and Nassau.”

By the end of 2026, Breeze will serve 37 destinations from TPA, including six in the Caribbean and Latin America. Later this year, the airline plans to launch TPA’s first-ever nonstop flights to San José, Costa Rica, along with new service to Cancun, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau, Bahamas; and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Tickets to Nassau are now available for purchase on the Breeze Airways website.
