A new behavioral health center is opening soon in North Port. This month North Port Behavioral Health will welcome its first patients at 4501 Citizens Parkway.

The 144-bed hospital will offer services for adolescents, adults and seniors struggling with mental health issues and substance use disorders. It is working through final licensing approval with the state and is expected to open “very soon,” a spokesperson for the facility says in a March 4 email.

North Port Behavioral Health will treat mental health conditions including adjustment disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, PTSD and trauma, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, self-harm, and suicidal ideation, according to its website. The hospital will also treat patients who are addicted to alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids and prescription drugs.

Each patient will receive a customized treatment plan and around-the-clock care to help them stabilize and make progress toward healing, according to a statement. The hospital's staff will include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, behavioral health technicians and other experts. Group therapy, family counseling, medication management and wellness practices will be among the services offered to help treat the mind, body and spirit.

In the future, North Port Behavioral Health will also offer partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs and electroconvulsive therapy, according to its LinkedIn page.

”As with any new hospital, North Port will scale up its patients and bed usage over time, which is normal in the industry,” Tim Blair, a spokesperson for Acadia Healthcare, says in an email.

Acadia Healthcare is the parent company of North Port Behavioral Health. The Franklin, Tennessee-based company operates more than 250 treatment centers in 38 states offering care for behavioral health and substance use disorders. In the region, Acadia Healthcare operates Port Royal Hospital in Fort Myers, Lakeland Comprehensive Treatment Center in Lakeland and North Tampa Behavioral Health Hospital in Wesley Chapel. Acadia Healthcare posted $3.2 billion in revenue in 2024.
