A retailer that sells home furnishings and other items has opened a store spanning more than 18,000 square feet in the Sarasota Pavilion shopping center. World Market is holding a grand opening this week celebrating its entry into the Gulf Gate area.
The store, near Publix in the shopping center off US 41 and Stickney Point Road, carries a variety of goods from furniture to food inspired by trends and designs around the globe. Buyers scour the world looking for jewelry, wines, housewares and accessories to feature at World Market locations, according to a statement.
Pillows, seasonal items, indoor and outdoor furniture, candy, drinks, rugs and dinnerware are among the items for sale.
There are 245 World Market stores nationwide, according to the statement from the company, which says the Sarasota location is the 14th in Florida. Clearwater, Fort Myers, Naples and Wesley Chapel all have a store.
“We are excited to introduce World Market to the Sarasota community,” World Market CEO Eric Hunter says in the statement. “The Sarasota Pavilion is an ideal location that allows us to connect with both longtime World Market fans and new customers. We are thrilled to provide the Sarasota community with a fun shopping experience that offers a unique assortment of stylish furniture, home décor, and gifts, alongside our unparalleled selection of international foods and candy.”
While the grand opening is planned for this week, the Sarasota location initially opened in December. It was one of seven stores the company added to its footprint in 2024.
Grand opening festivities will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Food tastings and giveaways will continue through the weekend.
World Market is at 6537 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily except Sunday, when the store closes at 7 p.m.
