Valspar, the paint brand owned by Sherwin-Williams Co., will continue as the title sponsor of the Pinellas County PGA golf tournament for five more years.

The company and the event’s organizers, Copperhead Charities and The PGA tour, announced an extension of the sponsorship this week. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The tournament will keep its current name, the Valspar Championship, until 2030 according to the agreement.

Valspar has been the main sponsor since 2014 and its agreement was set to expire this year.

The 2025 iteration of the tournament will be played at the Innisbrook Spa & Golf Resort in Palm Harbor, its longtime home, beginning March 17. This year’s event will have an $8.7 million purse and $1.72 million and 500 FedExCup points will go to the winner.

Peter Malnati is the defending champion.

The Valspar Championship traces its roots back to 1977 and has been known by several names since. It was the J.C. Penney Classic for about 20 years and featured players from both the PGA and LPGA tours.

The tournament’s previous winners include Curtis Strange, Nancy Lopez, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Beth Daniel, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, K.J. Choi and Jordan Spieth.

In 2018 Tiger Woods tied for second just a year before winning the Masters.

One other athlete in the mix is Tampa Bay Buccaneer legend Rondé Barber. He is the tournament’s general co-chair and head of Copperhead Charities.

Copperhead is the nonprofit that puts on the event. It has raised more than $51 million for charity since the tournament began in 1977.
