The Naples construction company that handled the expansion of Punta Gorda Airport's Bailey Terminal in 2016 is now preparing to break ground on another expansion there.

DeAngelis Diamond is overseeing the design and build for the $44 million terminal expansion project.

Construction is set to begin in June, with a target completion date of July 2027.

Plans call for a new departures concourse with larger waiting areas, WiFi access and charging stations; expanded and redesigned TSA checkpoints; upgraded restrooms; and more space for food concepts and concessions. Officials say the airport will grow from having seven gates to 10 gates when the expansion is complete. Concessions proposed beyond security include a Wolfgang Puck restaurant, Dunkin' and The Market at PGD.

“We look forward to bringing more amenities and modern upgrades to the traveling public, and we thank our passengers for their patience while we undergo these exciting changes,” Punta Gorda Airport CEO James W. Parish says in a statement.

More than 50,000 square feet will be added to the airport through the expansion. In addition, over 28,000 square feet of the current Bailey Terminal will be renovated.

“Having successfully completed PGD’s Bailey Terminal Expansion in 2016, it’s a privilege to continue our relationship and help build the airport’s future,” DeAngelis Diamond Vice President and Division Manager Scott Beck says in the statement. “As a local builder, we take great pride in being a part of a project that will have such a positive impact on our community.”

The goal of the expansion project is to accommodate growing passenger demand and improve operational efficiency. In 2024, PGD had more than 1.9 million passengers fly through the airport, a 1.23% increase from 2023.

Among the key project components are expanding the existing terminal and support building spaces, relocating aircraft parking positions and drainage structures, relocating and renovating the existing TSA checkpoint, modifying the parking apron and renovating hold rooms, according to the statement from DeAngelis Diamond.

The construction company has extensive experience with aviation projects, including managing construction of PGD’s new rental car facility due to be complete in June. Its portfolio also includes Southwest Florida International Airport, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, Naples Airport, Page Field, Marco Island Executive Airport and Immokalee Regional Airport.
