A husband-and-wife duo recently purchased an ice cream shop on Main Street in Sarasota, introduced an online ordering system and planning a loyalty program coming soon.

For the past two years, Roger and Wendy Shenk have managed Main Street Creamery in downtown Sarasota.

"We ran it like we were the owners from day one, so making it official was a no-brainer," Wendy Shenk says in a statement. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The store on Main Street is designed to feel like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, where people can meet over root beer floats, milkshakes and cones.

At the same time, the business aims to meet customers where they are so it recently joined Door Dash and Uber Eats; that way, people can order online and get their ice cream delivered to them at home.

"With just a few clicks, you can have our creamy, delicious ice cream delivered straight to your doorstep, perfect for a cozy night in or a special celebration," Wendy Shenk says in a statement.

The ice cream shop offers more than 30 flavors of ice cream as well as dairy-free options.

Going forward, Main Street Creamery plans to offer a loyalty program that will reward customers for their dedication.

"We remember the 'good old days' when families would visit the local ice cream parlor," Roger Shenk says in a statement. "Our joy is to be part of the new memories people will cherish, just like the ones from those days."

Main Street Creamery is at 1359 Main St., Sarasota. It is open from noon to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
