Passenger traffic at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport increased 5% in May compared with the same month a year ago, according to a new report from airport officials. There were 214,130 domestic passengers traveling through the facility, known by its airport code PIE, in May, officials say.

PIE is also adding to its nonstop destinations, with Allegiant beginning service this week to Evansville, Indiana, and McAllen, Texas. Now the airport offers flights to 64 total nonstop destinations.

Despite the uptick in May, passenger traffic overall so far this year is down 1% compared with 2023, PIE officials say. The total number of passengers so far this year to travel through PIE is 1,033,771. In May 2023, PIE had seen 1,302,283 total passengers.
