Moffitt Cancer Center promotes from within for top attorney spot

Moffitt Cancer Center named Chip Fletcher general counsel, a promotion from deputy general counsel, a role he held since 2018.

Before that, he provided legal and government relations guidance while at the law firm of de la Parte & Gilbert from 1997 until 2006.

“Since joining Moffitt, Chip has been an influential leader, helping the cancer center navigate the many legal complexities organizations face in today’s fast-paced health care environment,” says Dr. Patrick Hwu president and CEO of Moffitt, in a statement. “Our legal and government relations teams, under Chip’s leadership, will continue to help the cancer center accelerate our lifesaving mission to prevent and cure cancer.”

Fletcher is board-certified in state and federal government and administrative practice and has almost 30 years of experience practicing in the Tampa area. He was the Hillsborough County attorney from 2012 to 2018 and the city attorney for Tampa from 2008 to 2011. He also served as a member of the Tampa City Council from December 2006 through March 2007. He has worked in multiple private practices and as a policy analyst for the Florida House of Representatives.
