PGT Innovations co-founder Rod Hershberger has been named to the board of directors for Miter Brands — the residential window and door company that acquired PGT earlier this year in a $3.1 billion deal.

Hershberger co-founded PGT Custom Windows and Doors and was past chairman of the board for parent company PGT Innovations. Officials say he was appointed to the Miter board effective July 25.

"I am thrilled to join the Miter Brands’ board," Hershberger says in a statement. “I look forward to contributing to their passion and dedication to building the most valued window and door brand in America.”

Hershberger co-founded vinyl porch enclosure manufacturing company VinylTech in Venice with three employees in 1980. In 1987 a division called Progressive Glass Technology, or PGT, was established to make windows and doors. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the company set out to create products to protect homes from catastrophic damage and became the first to offer a full suite of impact-resistant windows and doors, according to a statement.

At PGT, Hershberger was CEO from 2005 until retiring in 2017. After that, he served as the non-employee chairman of the board for PGT Innovations.

Miter acquired PGT Innovations in a deal that closed in late March.

"We are delighted to welcome Rod Hershberger to the Miter Brands’ board," Matt DeSoto, CEO of Miter Brands, says in an Aug. 20 statement. "Hershberger brings a wealth of experience and is known as a thought leader and innovator in the window and door industry. Aside from his deep understanding of our industry, Hershberger’s humility and devotion to his core values make him an invaluable addition to our board. We are excited to work together to drive innovation and excellence in the window and door market."
