A prominent legal partner in Sarasota is taking on a new challenge with his recent appointment of vice chair of the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County board.

Brett Henson, a Shumaker partner, will serve a one-year term as vice chair with the opportunity to become board chair in 2024. Shumaker, a full-service law firm, has 11 offices across the U.S., including in Tampa and Sarasota.

“Brett's exceptional contribution as a board member has paved the way for even greater successes, and I couldn’t be more excited as he assumes a leadership role on the EDC board of directors,” Erin Silk, president and CEO, says in a release. Henson has been a board member since 2021.

Henson, who is certified by the Florida Bar in construction law, also holds leadership positions on the Construction Industry Advisory board for the stock development department of construction management at the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast as well as the Florida Bar’s Construction Law Certification Standing Committee.

“Sarasota is ranked one of the best places to live in the U.S., and it is our responsibility to build upon this accolade to sustain and build upon Sarasota’s thriving community,” Henson says of the EDC’s role in the community.
