Board chair chosen for Sarasota foundation focused on supporting students

Financial industry executive Susan Hines has been elected chair of the board of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.

Formed in 1955, the Selby Foundation, according to a statement, is “the charitable legacy of Bill and Marie Selby, two giving people who cared deeply about opportunity for others in our region.” The foundation had $70.9 million in assets in its most recent fiscal year, according to public tax filings. It invests in high-achieving students and nonprofits in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties, with scholarships and capital grants.

A licensed attorney, Hines is managing principal in the Sarasota office of Sabal Trust, according to the statement. She is a past director of the Sarasota County Bar Association and a past chair of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council.

Other members of the board of the foundation include: Keith DuBose, Carolyn Johnson, Laura Spencer, Tom Tryon and Barbara Zdravecky. Longtime area nonprofit leader and advocate Susie Bowie is the president and CEO.
