A premier custom mobile suit shop has set down some roots in Sarasota.
Tweeds Suit Shop opened its first shop not on wheels at 1423 First St. in downtown Sarasota, near City Hall and the Ellis Building. It’s the first brick-and-mortar location for the shop.
Since getting started in 2019, Tweeds’ clients had been getting measured for suits out of 16-foot custom box trucks. The shop’s range extended to Sarasota, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Fort Myers, Naples, Miami and Orlando. The trucks travel to the client, whether at home or the office.
The newest location offers custom suit maker services in 1,700 square feet of space. It’s open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. A press release states that client events will be held there as well.
“Opening our first boutique right in downtown Sarasota has always been the ultimate goal for Tweeds Suit Shop,” Donald Carlson, founder of Tweeds Suit Shop, says in the release. “I wanted to create a space that was more than just a store and truly an experience for all our current and future clients — it’s a true lounge where our clients can come and feel comfortable while they design their perfect suit. It’s all about the experience”
The business will continue operating the box trucks and traveling to the client, a spokesperson says. The brick-and-mortar is an extension to the business model.
