Sun Country Airlines is adding flights to Southwest Florida later this year from northern Midwest locales.

In one announcement, the Minneapolis-based carrier says “in response to consumer demand in Wisconsin, Sun Country is adding more flights and new destinations from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport.”

That includes nonstop flights from Milwaukee (MKE) to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. Those flights will commence this winter, airline officials say, in addition to new nonstop flights from MKE to Cancun, Mexico, Orlando and Phoenix.

“Mexico, Florida, and Arizona are the most popular winter destinations for Milwaukee-based travelers, and we’re pleased Sun Country is providing additional low-fare options to these family-friendly warm weather destinations,” Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport Director Brian Dranzik says in the statement.

In addition, officials with Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) recently confirmed that Sun Country will return to the airport this December, with twice-weekly, nonstop service to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Those flights, the airport says in its newsletter, will run through April 2024.

Sun Country also debuted nonstop service between northern Wisconsin and Southwest Florida late last year, with a flight from Chippewa Valley Regional Airport in Eau Claire (EAU) to RSW.
