After a year of retirement, Laura Spencer, a former C-suite executive, is stepping into a new role: board member.

The Sarasota-based William G. and Marie Selby Foundation board recently elected Spencer as its newest  member.

Spencer retired last year as CFO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, a position she held for 10 years. Her 40-year career also included a few years leading drinkware manufacturer Tervis as CEO and nine years with CPA firm Kerkering, Barberio & Co.

“Laura’s professional and community experience were heralded by the board of directors during this strategic selection process,” Barbara Zdravecky, Selby Foundation board chair, says in a release.

Spencer will officially join the board Aug. 1. The foundation’s current board members include Zdravecky, Keith DuBose, Susan Hines, Carolyn Johnson and Tom Tryon, with Susie Bowie as the president and CEO.
