Night owls, college students and people who just can’t sleep in Fort Myers have a new spot to get a treat: Insomnia Cookies recently opened a store in Fort Myers, in the University Village Shopping Center, just south of Florida Gulf Coast University.
The store marks No. 10 in Florida and No. 236 nationwide for the brand with a cult-like following, not surprisingly, with college students and, to a lesser extent, Major League Baseball players. The Fort Myers store is open until 1 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. The Philadelphia-based chain has two other locations on the west coast of Florida, in south Tampa and the USF campus. Other Florida locations are in Gainesville and Tallahassee, as well as the Miami, Orlando and Jacksonville areas.
Insomnia Cookies was founded in 2003 in a University of Pennsylvania dorm room by then-student Seth Berkowitz. The bakery now offers a wide variety of cookies, ice cream and other sweet treats in-store, for local delivery and nationwide shipping. Options include the classic chocolate chunk cookie to favorites like Snickerdoodle and confetti deluxe. There’s also a full slate of vegan options, frequently-rotating limited-edition menu, new brookies, brownies and blondies.
