Brigid Merenda, a shareholder at Trenam Law, has been named general counsel at the Tampa-based, 85-attorney law firm. She succeeds Stanley Eleff.

The promotion, according to a news release, adds another woman to a key leadership position at Trenam. The firm’s president and managing partner is Marie Tomassi, and its COO is Sharon Ellwood, while Lori Rabinowitz is its chief marketing and business development officer. Beth Cronin is the loss prevention partner at Trenam’s St. Petersburg office; Nikole Garcia, Diana Hayes, Alicia Koepke and Lynn Sherman are leaders and co-leaders of their respective practice groups; and Lara Fernandez serves on the executive board.

“Brigid is well-known as an exceptional practicing attorney and highly regarded by her clients, colleagues and peers,” Tomassi states in the release. “Her service in this role also highlights the great fortune we’ve had at Trenam to develop such a diverse slate of leaders.”

Apart from her role as general counsel, Merenda is a shareholder in the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution practice group. She handles a diverse array of matters for clients, including complex litigation, heath care and medical staff privileges litigation, shareholder disputes and employment law.

“It is an honor to be entrusted with this vital role for our firm and to join such an impressive team of leaders within the firm,” Merenda states in the release. “The legal landscape facing businesses continues to present challenges for our clients and our firm alike, and I am looking forward to working with our talented attorneys to continue Stan Eleff’s great work as general counsel to help ensure the sustained success of our firm.”
