For a seventh consecutive month, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport — also known as PIE, its airport code — has again experienced record-breaking levels of passenger traffic.

September, normally a sluggish month for tourism in the Tampa Bay region with adults going back to work and children back in school, was busier than ever for PIE.

According to a news release, the airport welcomed a total of 132,080 passengers in September, a 19% increase over September 2021. Domestic flights were up 18%. Year to date, 27% more travelers have departed from and/or arrived at the facility.

PIE serves 65 destinations with nonstop flights offered primarily by Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air. Canadian carrier Sunwing Airlines also operates at the airport.
