So much for the office being dead.

Two major companies announced Wednesday, May 11, plans to take office space in Tampa. The companies — a law firm and a tech company — have leased more than 80,000 square feet in buildings with prominent addresses.

The first is law firm Cole, Scott & Kissane, which announced it was moving into a 42,500-square-foot space at the Westshore 500 building at 500 N. Westshore Blvd. The firm will take the fifth floor, the seventh floor and part of the sixth floor.

Westshore 500 is a 130,350-square-foot, 10-story office building in Tampa’s Westshore District.

The firm is actually downsizing, moving from its current 49,700-square-foot office in Tampa with more than 100 attorneys plus staff. The move is expected to be complete by October of next year.

Meanwhile, several miles west, national cybersecurity firm Rapid7 has signed a lease to move into 42,500 square feet at Sparkman Wharf in the Water Street Tampa development.

The company will take two floors in the 245,000-square-foot office and retail development. It expects to begin moving later this year and plans to add 100 jobs.

Rapid7 announced in October that it was coming to Tampa because it was attracted to the city's emerging tech industry.

Terms of the leases were not immediately available.
