If you enjoyed “Life’s Rewards,” the 2021 Visit St. Pete/Clearwater marketing vehicle disguised as a scripted TV “dramedy,” get ready to tune in for a second season.
Streaming on the Amazon Prime Video platform, the show’s first-season episodes were viewed more than 341,000 times, resulting in nearly 30 million advertising impressions, according to a news release. That exceeded goals set by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and its partners on the project, the St. Pete/Clearwater Film Commission and Visit Florida.
The first season of “Life’s Rewards” was set at the Don CeSar resort in St. Pete Beach but featured many other Pinellas County locales. It told the story of Dan Kinney, the privileged son of a high-profile wealth manager who finds himself stranded at the Don CeSar after a business trip that goes bad. Financially strapped, Kinney must rely on charisma, friendly locals and a cache of hotel points to survive.
“We are thrilled with the accomplishments of ‘Life’s Rewards,’ which we believe is a creative and innovative foray into a new world of destination marketing,” Visit St. Pete/Clearwater CEO Steve Hayes states in the release. “In a newly reopened travel industry, the first season looked to encourage a rejuvenated desire to visit our special destination, and the much-anticipated second season is proof of the success of this groundbreaking project.”
Written and directed by Damian Fitzsimmons, the second season, streaming on Amazon Prime Video as well as YouTube, premiered May 13. Fans of the first season will recognize the main character, a Don CeSar bartender and St. Pete native named Jared who befriends Kinney.
According to the release, the show follows Jared as he embarks on a new business venture that takes him to local residents’ favorite spots that might not be as well-known as venues such as the Don CeSar.
Sarasota-based travel marketing company Miles Partnership also helped produce the second season of “Life’s Rewards,” and the firm’s vice president, Brianne Maciejowski, says the show will help travelers “gather pro tips only a local would know” while still highlighting “St. Pete/Clearwater’s most famous sites.”
