Synovus will open a new branch and moves some operations to the Water Street district in Tampa.
The Georgia-based bank has leased 16,568 square feet at the Thousand & One and Asher buildings, according the project's director. A 2,334-square-foot bank branch, Synovus’ 16th in the market, will open in Asher, a residential tower, and 14,234 square feet in the Thousand & One will be used for corporate offices.
Both are expected to open later this year.
Sara Bagdadi, a spokeswoman for Synovus, says in an email that the seventh-floor office will house about 45 employees from several different departments, including commercial banking, commercial real estate, private wealth and retail.
She says the new office and branch “will expand our capabilities in the Tampa Bay region” and that “more information will be shared closer to the locations' opening dates.”
Water Street is the $3 billion, 56-acre, mixed-use development just south of downtown Tampa. When completed, the development, being built on land once mostly made up of parking lots, is expected to bring nine million square feet of new construction that will include commercial, residential, hospitality, entertainment and retail space.
The project’s developer, Strategic Property Partners, is a joint venture between investor and Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and Bill Gates’ Cascade Investment LLC.
Synovus will join about 30 other tenants already committed to the development ranging from regional restaurants to national fitness franchises to a locally-owned boutique.
