TAMPA - An attorney with more than 15 years’ experience in privacy and cyber security, including a stint as chief privacy officer for NBCUniversal, has been named partner at Holland & Knight.

The Tampa law firm has named Hilary Lane partner and she will be part of the firm’s data strategy, security and privacy team, according to a statement. She moves over from Quarles & Brady, a firm she joined last July after leaving New York.

“The boards and the C-suites of our corporate clients should be especially pleased to meet Hilary, given her practical in-house experience and familiarity with some of the most stringent data privacy laws, particularly as more commerce is conducted online,” executive partner Brad Kimbro, of Holland & Knight’s Tampa office, says in the statement.

Before coming to Tampa, Lane worked mostly on issues involving cyber security and data privacy for NBCUniversal.

As chief privacy officer for the media behemoth, which is now owned by Comcast, Lane helped build and launch  global privacy programs across the company.

Mark Melodia, who leads the firm’s data strategy, security and privacy team, says Lane brings experience that will help “businesses navigate the privacy and cybersecurity landscape as it evolves internationally.”

Lane earned her law degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She also earned a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, one of the premier journalism school in the country.
