TAMPA — Tampa Electric Co. President and CEO Nancy Tower has announced her planned retirement from the company, effective mid-2021.

Tower joined the utility’s parent company, Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Emera Inc., in 1997. Prior to being named president and CEO of Tampa Electric Co., also known as TECO, she served as Emera's chief corporate development officer.

According to a press release, Tower will continue to lead TECO until her retirement becomes official. Emera says it plans to conduct a rigorous recruitment process that will consider both internal and external candidates to succeed her.

“Nancy has had an impressive career at Emera, and she has been a key part of Emera’s growth story,” Emera President and CEO Scott Balfour states in the release. “Tampa Electric is a growing and dynamic utility that we believe will attract the highest-caliber candidates both internally and externally. The successful candidate will work with the strong leadership team to continue to advance Tampa Electric’s strategy, as the utility works to deliver cleaner, affordable and reliable energy to its customers.”

Emera (TSX: EMA), the release states, has $32 billion in assets and 2019 revenues of more than $6.1 billion.
