SARASOTA — The Players Centre for Performing Arts named William Skaggs CEO.

Skaggs’ most recent position was with Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green, Ky., according to a press release. Prior to Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center, his career included work in financial services and 12 years in institutional advancement at Western Kentucky University.

“The board of trustees did an extensive nationwide search and found the right person for the CEO position,” says Donna DeFant, chair of The Players Board of Trustees, in the statement. “We are incredibly excited to have William Skaggs steering our ship.”

As The Players moves from its current theater into a temporary location and plans to build a new facility in Lakewood Ranch’s Waterside Place, Skaggs will be invaluable to the strategic plan in place, the release says.

“The Players Centre holds a special place in the heart of this community," says Skaggs. "This became readily apparent during the search process, and I see it in the energy and talent of staff, volunteers and board of trustees. After 90 years, this community theatre and studio still provides so much value to those that experience it. There is a bright future on the horizon and I’m proud and excited to be a part of it.”

The Players Centre for Performing Arts is a nonprofit dedicated to entertaining, educating and engaging the community through high-quality live theatre.
