TAMPA — The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has received a $500,000 commitment from the Humana Foundation in response to the COVID-19 public health and economic crises in the Tampa Bay region.
According to a press release, the Community Foundation’s rapid response fund will disburse the funds to local nonprofits that address Tampa Bay residents’ immediate, mid- and long-term needs.
“The COVID-19 pandemic escalated community concerns, such as food insecurity and access to health care and mental health resources,” states Marlene Spalten, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, in the release. “As a community collaborator, we support the local nonprofits who are best equipped to meet our community’s greatest needs.”
The Humana Foundation, the release states, previously donated $100,000 to the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay for COVID-19 relief.
“The Humana Foundation understands the far-reaching strain the pandemic has placed on many organizations working on the frontlines to provide health care, food and employment for those disproportionality affected by the COVID-19 health crisis,” Humana Foundation CEO Walter Woods states in the release. “Our aim is to remove barriers and help them respond, recover and rebuild.”
The Community Foundation of Tampa Bay has infused nearly $4 million into local nonprofits since March 2020, according to the release.
