MANATEE COUNTY — Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy Inc. named Rebecca Blitz its new executive director.
SMART is a nonprofit that provides therapeutic horseback riding and equine-assisted activities for individuals with disabilities.
Blitz brings extensive experience in nonprofit management to SMART, according to a press release. She previously served as regional director for Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. In that role, she directed all fundraising activities for the organization. Previously she served as director of development and marketing for the Diocese of Venice. Earlier in her career, she was director of family and children programs at the Flanzer Jewish Community Center.
At SMART, Blitz will be responsible for resource development and executive leadership of the mostly volunteer organization.
“We are thrilled to have Rebecca join our SMART family as our new Executive Director," says SMART Board of Directors President Nick Drizos in a statement. "With her expertise and leadership, we are more hopeful than ever that SMART will be able to successfully navigate these challenging times.”
SMART was established in 1987 and is based in eastern Manatee County. It served 459 individuals with disabilities in 2019. SMART also offers a literacy program and programs for veterans, at-risk youth and teens, and victims of human trafficking.
