TAMPA — REI Co-op, a specialty outdoor retailer and the nation’s largest consumer co-op, has chosen Bromley Companies’ Midtown Tampa development for the company’s first location on Florida’s west coast.

Seattle-based REI, according to a press release, operates 155 stores in 35 states, including two Florida locations in Jacksonville and Winter Park.

“REI has been part of our vision for Midtown since the beginning, especially with the company’s significant membership base in Florida,” Bromley Companies CEO Nicholas Haines states in the release. “REI is a perfect fit with Midtown’s other wellness-focused tenants, including Whole Foods Market and True Food Kitchen, combined with our outdoor amenities to help foster connections and ultimately improve the health of the community.”

REI plans to open the 22,500-square-foot store in spring 2021, the release states.

The 22-acre, mixed-use Midtown Tampa project is located at the southeast corner of 1-275 and North Dale Mabry Highway, and will offer 1.8 million square feet of retail, residential, Class A office, entertainment and hospitality space.
