ST. PETERSBURG — Protect My Car, which provides extended warranty products for vehicles no longer covered by a manufacturer’s warranty, has a prominent new board member: Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

The new board appointment stems from a minority stake Coral Gables-based private equity firm Dock Square Capital acquired in Protect My Car, according to a statement. Financial terms of the investment weren’t disclosed.

Bush, a Republican, is a managing partner and chairman of Dock Square Capital, while his son, Jeb Bush Jr., is a founding managing partner of the firm the release adds. Officially launched in January 2017, Dock Square Capital came out of a predecessor business, Britton Hill Partners, co-founded by the two-term governor in 2008. "We have been greatly impressed by PMC's service quality, operational acumen, and customer-focused innovation," Bush says in the statement.

St. Petersburg-based Protect My Car, in addition to extended auto warranty plans, is also a licensed insurance agency that provides roadside assistance, towing and other services. "Dock Square will add tremendous value as we accelerate our growth plans through strategic partnerships," Protect My Car CEO Craig Rubino says in the release.
