FORT MYERS — Dr. Stephen Brown was recently elected chairman of the Lee Health Board for 2018.

A retired radiologist and former mayor of Sanibel, Brown has been on the board since 2008, according to a statement. He serves as the board's liaison to Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida; the quality and safety committee; lean transformation/process improvement; and behavioral health, the release adds.

Brown served nine years on the Sanibel City Council and was mayor from 2002-2003. He currently serves on the boards of Sanibel Community Housing Resource and Sanibel Captiva Charitable Foundation of the Islands.

Former Florida State Rep. Donna Clarke will continue to serve as vice chairman of the board; area mortgage banker David Collins will continue to serve as treasurer; and Therese Everly, a registered respiratory therapist, will remain board secretary.

“We appreciate the officers' level of involvement and we are thankful to have such an accomplished group working to further our commitment to provide the highest quality care,” Lee Health President and CEO Dr. Larry Antonucci says in the statement.

Lee Health, with six hospitals in the system and multiple other practices, is one of the largest medical operations in the state.
