TAMPA — Beginning Sept. 6, Spirit Airlines will begin operating direct flights between Tampa International Airport and Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C.

North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad metro area encompasses the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point.

According to a press release, Spirit Airlines will operate the flights twice per week to start with, and then increase their frequency to three times per week beginning on Nov. 8. The Miramar-based carrier will also offer service linking Piedmont Triad with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Orlando International Airport.

“Spirit is excited to offer the Piedmont Triad ultra-low fares to warm, family-friendly destinations just in time for a winter getaway,” states Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ vice president of network planning, in the release. “Our guests will be able to make the most out of their vacations by choosing the options they want and saving money in the process. We pride ourselves on providing more opportunities for everyone to travel.”

Piedmont Triad International Airport represents the 66th service market for Spirit Airlines, according to the release.
