ST. PETERSBURG — Publix and Kahwa Coffee Roasters have teamed up to roll out Kahwa-branded cafes at 130 supermarkets across the southeast. The deal will also see St. Petersburg-based Kahwa produce a new blend, dubbed Cubano, developed specifically for the cafes.

The first two cafes will open at Publix stores in Winter Garden and Bradenton, according to a press release. The Cubano blend will also be available at Kahwa’s 12 existing cafes across the Tampa Bay region.

“We are absolutely over the moon that Publix is working with a local Florida roaster,” states Kahwa founder and owner Raphael Perrier in the release. “Consumers like to enjoy coffee as they shop and tasting the product is the best opportunity to create a lifelong customer and drive sales for Publix.”

The Publix announcement coincides with Kahwa Coffee’s plans to open new cafes at a pair of popular, high-traffic shopping malls: International Plaza in Tampa and University Town Center in Sarasota.
