Architecture firm expands to Sarasota with acquisition

SARASOTA — Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, an architecture and engineering firm based in Montgomery, Ala., has acquired SaltCo, an architectural and planning firm in Sarasota. The move expands GMC’s footprint in the Southeast as well its depth of resources.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. 

SaltCo has provided design services to clients in more than a decade, according to a statement. While its portfolio includes hospitality, transportation facilities, retail and other general commercial projects, its primary focus has been health care design. 

“This acquisition complements the work GMC currently has underway in Florida and further demonstrates our commitment to provide local service, backed by a regional network of professionals,” says Freddie Lynn, GMC senior vice president of architecture, in the release. “We are confident that SaltCo’s reputation as a quality design firm in central Florida coupled with GMC’s reach spanning the Southeast will create a solid partnership to better serve our clients and provide new opportunities for our staff.”

The two firms have collaborated on several projects, several now underway for Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. They include renovating operating rooms and the pre/post-operative area, replacing catherization laboratory equipment and relocating the first-floor patient discharge area to facilitate hospital expansion, the release states. In addition, the combined staffs are working on a pharmacy relocation and replacement projects for Manatee Memorial and Lakewood Ranch hospitals and a CT replacement, pharmacy relocation and nuclear medicine upgrades at DeSoto Memorial Hospital.

Founded in 1947, GMC is one of the largest architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast , with offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Services include architecture, electrical, engineering, environmental, geotechnical, interior design, landscape, planning, surveying and transportation.

The former SaltCo employees will operate as GMC at their location at 2650 Bahia Vista St., Suite 302, in Sarasota.
