TAMPA — Biotechnology company Amgen plans to locate a facility in Tampa and ultimately add 450 employees there by the end of 2018, according to a press release from the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp.

The selection of Tampa comes after Amgen evaluated other U.S. locations and representatives visited finalist communities.

The 136,000-square-foot facility will begin operating in October. It will occupy four floors at Corporate Center One on North Westshore Boulevard in Tampa.

Employees at the center will provide a variety of services, including operational, analytical, staff support and business support activities.

“Amgen is proud to be establishing our new, state-of-the-art Capability Center in Tampa,” says Amgen Executive Vice President and CFO David Meline in a statement. “We are a company driven by a single mission — to serve patients — and the services and activities that will happen at the Center are central to enabling this.”
