SARASOTA — Former Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce President Steve Queior has been named development director of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, a Sarasota-based advocacy nonprofit that works with families nationwide.

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association is the largest education, support and research organization for people and families living with PWS in the United States, according to a statement. Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder, caused by deletion of a part of chromosome. Symptoms include behavior problems, intellectual disability and short stature. There is no cure, but many people with Prader-Willi Syndrome can benefit from a supervised diet. Others are treated with hormone therapy.

Queior ran the Sarasota chamber for 13 years. “It will be an honor to soon be working saving and transforming lives through the strategic and caring work of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association,” Queior says in a statement. “PWSA's mission of bringing key people and groups together to raise awareness, provide support, enhance education and advocacy, and accelerate research improving the lives of those impacted by Prader-Willi syndrome is a noble one. Helping to fulfill this mission will be stimulating, challenging, and rewarding for me.
