Airport reports record passenger traffic

FORT MYERS — Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers reported a 7.3% increase in passengers in June 2017 compared to June 2016.

In June 2017, 528,383 passengers traveled through the airport. According to a press release, year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 2% from the same period last year.

Delta Air Lines was the June traffic leader with 132,106 passengers traveling to and from the airport. The other airlines in the top five were Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue and United Airlines.

According to a statement, about 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through the airport in June, which was an increase of 2.9% compared to June 2016.

Southwest Florida International Airport served 8.6 million passengers in 2016.
