LAKEWOOD RANCH — Sarasota Polo Club in Lakewood Ranch will be sold to developer David Meunier.

According to a YourObserver.com article, Schroeder-Manatee Ranch is in the process of selling the 160-acre, nine-field property. A stipulation of the sale is that Meunier, 51, keep the site as an equine facility.

The sale is in a 90-day due diligence phase, says Schroeder-Manatee Ranch Director of Marketing and Communications Lisa Barnott.

Meunier, a former professional race car driver who lives near Coral Gables, says he is trying to shorten the 90-day period to begin work on the facility. He wants to add a second arena at the facility that could be used for other equine sports such as dressage and jumping. Meunier is known for rehabilitating run-down properties in the Miami area and turning apartments into condominiums.

Financial details of the sale were not disclosed. The Sarasota Polo Club was founded in 1991. It was the first development in Lakewood Ranch.
