TAMPA — Fifth Third Bank has named Jim Weiss city president of its Tampa operations.

Weiss, a Fifth Third senior vice president, also works as its senior commercial banking executive for North Florida. He will continue in those roles while assuming the Tampa responsibilities, the Ohio-based bank says in a statement.

In his new job, Weiss will report to David Call, the bank's Florida regional president. Call says in the statement he expects Weiss will “continue to build our brand and reputation in the Tampa Bay community.”

Weiss has been with Fifth Third for more than a decade, including a stint as a top business banking executive in Tampa Bay.

Prior to joining Fifth Third, Weiss worked as a first vice president and middle-market team leader for Commerce Bank N.A. in St. Louis.

In addition to his banking duties, Weiss is a board member for the Tampa Downtown Partnership.

“The Tampa Bay market is an economic growth engine, and I am honored to help lead the bank's operations and community involvement here,” Weiss says.

Fifth Third's parent had assets of $143 billion and operated more than 1,190 full-service branches as a Sept. 30 in 10 states, including Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
