ST. PETERSBURG — In March, the Cross-Bay Ferry between Tampa and St. Petersburg sold 7,990 tickets, according to a press release.

The number of tickets sold was a 31% increase over February. March weekend ridership increased 17% over February. Weekday ridership increased 57%.

The six-month pilot project has carried 31,362 people as of March 31. The last day of the project is April 30.

“We are now in the final month of this pilot project, and the ferry is finishing strong,” says Project Advisor Ed Turanchik in a statement.

The ferry project began in November 2016 as a test of the feasibility and desire of the community for regular water transit.
