Publix promotes pair of real estate executives
Publix Super Markets recently announced the promotion of two executives to new real estate division positions.
Director of Construction Bob McGarrity will be promoted to vice president of facilities and Vice President of Real Estate Jeff Chamberlain will be promoted to senior vice president, overseeing real estate and facilities, according to a statement. Both promotions are effective Jan. 1.
The moves follow the pending retirement of Vice President of Facilities Dave Duncan, a 42-year Publix employee who is leaving the company Dec. 31.
“During Dave's many years of dedicated service, he was instrumental in the success of numerous projects,” Publix CEO and President Todd Jones says in the release.
“He has supported our company's growth, while being a champion for our sustainability efforts, including launching our Green Routine program more than a decade ago.
McGarrity, 55, has more than 30 years' experience leading teams in the areas of commercial construction, real estate development and facilities management. He joined Publix in 2012, and will oversee the design, construction and maintenance of stores and equipment. Chamberlain, 60, started his Publix career in 1972 as a part-time front service clerk in Satellite Beach.

Builder wins work for medical facility
Fort Myers-based Stevens Construction has been awarded the construction management services contract for the new Florida Cancer Specialist & Research Institute facility in Cape Coral.
The 26,924-square-foot medical office, at 1030 Commerce Creek Blvd., incorporates principles of evidence-based design, which have been proven to ease patient anxiety, according to a statement. The facility includes an expansive treatment room that can hold up to 75 patients and has tall windows and high ceilings to create a serene surrounding with natural lighting. The office also houses a PET scan, blood draw room, laboratory, pharmacy, research offices, 15 exam rooms, checkout and scheduling area, employee lounge and patio, the statement adds.
Construction for the new facility is underway and the project is scheduled for completion by next summer.

Trust company hires investments executive
Caldwell Trust Co. named J. Chris McGee vice president of investments.
McGee will oversee Caldwell's investment committee, which includes in-house professionals and outside analysts to make decisions for client portfolios. McGee will be based in the company's Venice headquarters, according to a release.
McGee was previously a senior investment adviser and senior vice president for PNC Wealth Management in Sarasota for nearly a decade. Before that he was a portfolio manager for five years with U.S. Trust in Sarasota.
Caldwell Trust is an independent trust company with offices in Venice and Sarasota. It was founded in 1993 and currently manages more than $850 million in assets for clients nationwide.

Kidney care company appoints top Florida official
National kidney care services company DaVita Inc. named Craig Albright market president of its Florida division, based in St. Petersburg.
Albright was previously an executive vice president at Jacksonville-based Healogics, Inc., where he was responsible for marketing, corporate strategy, government affairs and local market growth, a release says. Albright has also been a strategic adviser to a number of organizations, including the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
DaVita Inc. is a Fortune 500 company and the parent company of DaVita Kidney Care and HealthCare partners. DaVita Kidney Care provides kidney care nationwide, and through June 30 had operated or provided administrative services at 2,293 outpatient dialysis centers that serve at least 185,000 patients. HealthCare Partners manages and operates medical groups and affiliated physician networks in Florida, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado and Washington and has provided integrated care management for about 760,000 patients.
Law firm seeks to help startups thrive
Tampa-based law firm Carlton Fields recently launched a microsite designed to help tech entrepreneurs and startups.
The site, launchtothrive.com, provides startup-specific legal services and support at no cost, according to a statement. There is an English and Spanish version, the statement adds.
