TAMPA — For the third straight year, Tampa General Hospital has been named to Becker's Hospital Review's list of the '100 Great Hospitals in America.'

The list selects hospitals nationwide for a multitude of reasons, which include having a strong history of innovation, providing top-notch patient care, leading clinical advancement with forward-thinking research or holding an irreplaceable spot in their communities, a statement says.

Becker's noted two key stats about Tampa General: It is the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, and it is one of the largest hospitals in Florida, serving 12 counties. It also cited Tampa General's ranking in U.S. News & World Report, its Magnet status, its burn and trauma centers and the success of its transplant program.

Tampa General is the only hospital on the west coast of Florida named to the list, the statement says. Three hospitals in Florida made it.
