TAMPA — Tom Dorety, longtime president and CEO of Suncoast Credit Union, announced he will retire at the end of the year.

Under Dorety's leadership, Suncoast Credit Union has grown into the largest in the state, a statement says. It has $7.5 billion in assets, more than 700,000 members and 60 branch offices, according to the release.

Dorety's experience in the credit union industry dates back more than 40 years, the statement says. He started his career with NC State Employees Credit Union in 1975, where he served in multiple positions, including loan officer, branch manager, regional vice president and senior vice president of staff development. He was named senior vice president at Suncoast in 1988 and became CEO in 1996.

The credit union is already looking for Dorety's replacement. The board expects to announce its decision this fall.
