SARASOTA — State and local officials committed what could be more than $1 million in financial aid to a company considering Sarasota for a new headquarters.

The business, a national roofing company, is on track to receive a total of $1,296,000, a statement says. The project, codenamed Project Mulligan, is split between $1,080,000 from the state's Qualified Targeted Industry Tax Refund and a local match of 20% to be paid over an eight-year period.

The business behind Project Mulligan has committed to creating 180 full-time jobs with an average annual wage of at least $58,757, the statement says. The company is eligible for $4,000 per new job from the QTI program. Because it is considered a company “within the designated high impact sector”, it is eligible for an additional $2,000 per new job from the county.

Earlier this year, officials committed up to $208,800 in financial aid to two companies also considering relocating their headquarters to Sarasota. Those companies would create a combined 48 jobs.
