HILLSBOROUGH —Hillsborough Community College has received the largest corporate contribution in the school's history.
The $1 million grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co. will help the college complete its Advanced Transportation Technology Center, a statement says. JPMorgan has already given $250,000 for the development of the center.
The project previously received $2.75 million in funding during the 2016 legislative session and received $600,000 in awards from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, the statement says. It also received a $75,000 grant from the Hillsborough County Commission.
With the new center, Hillsborough Community College is adding four new training programs, the statement says. They will complement four pre-existing programs.
“We want to help more local talent to be ready to compete for the jobs that are shaping up our city's infrastructure,” says Mike Dosal, market leader for JPMorgan Chase in Tampa and region manager for Chase Commercial Banking, in a statement. “Our ports, our transportation systems and our ability to be ready to continue to compete globally are creating tremendous opportunity for economic mobility, starting with good paying careers.”
Hillsborough Community College serves more than 45,000 students annually on campuses in Tampa, Brandon, Plant City, Ruskin and Ybor City. JPMorgan Chase & Co. is a global financial services firm with $2.4 trillion in assets.
