Margaret Callihan, who ran a division of SunTrust Banks that stretches from Collier to Manatee County for nearly a decade, has moved up to a top leadership post in the company.

One of the most visible business leaders in the Sarasota-Bradenton area when she oversaw SunTrust, Callihan was named chief human resource officer, according to a statement from the bank. She will report directly to SunTrust Chairman and CEO William Rogers, the bank adds, and will oversee staffing, compensation, employee benefits and training and development, among other tasks. Callihan replaces chief human resource officer Kenneth Carrig, who is retiring from the bank, which had $194 billion in assets through March.

“Margaret Callihan is a proven leader with broad banking and management experience to build upon these successes in the CHRO role,” says Rogers in the statement.

Callihan has been with SunTrust for 38 years. She ran the bank's Southwest Florida region from 2005 to 2013. During that time she was active in the area's civic and philanthropic community, chairing several board and events. She was promoted to run SunTrust's South Florida region, covering the Miami-Palm Beach region, in January 2013.
