TAMPA — USF Federal Credit Union has been named the 2016 credit union of the year by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates.

The award, given to the top credit union with at least $500 million in assets, “recognizes credit unions that have made significant contributions to the development and growth of the credit union movement in the Alabama and Florida regions,” a statement says.

In its submission, the USF Federal Credit Union highlighted several noteworthy events: its merger with Darden Employees Federal credit union; its creation of two brands; its lending results; renovation of the Marshall Student Center Branch; the executive internship program; and participation in advocacy initiatives. The credit union was selected from more than 30 nominees for the award, the statement says.

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates represents 261 credit unions in Alabama and Florida with a combined total of $68 billion in assets and more than 6.8 million members.

Founded in 1959, USF Federal Credit Union has more than 52,000 members and more than $500 million in assets. It has six branches.
