Airport posts traffic record

More than 1.6 million passengers traveled through St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in 2015, breaking its record of 1.3 million passengers set in 2004.

St. Pete-Clearwater International's traffic increased by 32% over 2014, when the airport served more than 1.2 million passengers, according to a release. The year was capped by a strong December, which brought more than 145,000 passengers to the airport.

St. Pete-Clearwater International's airline share is dominated by Allegiant Air, which handles 95% of the flights. The remaining segments are split between Beau Rivage and Sunwing.
