The Sunshine State won't mess with Texas, and New York remains a big apple, but when it comes to visitors, Georgia is the state on Florida's mind.

Georgia, according to newly released data from Visit Florida, is the No. 1 feeder state to Florida for tourists, at 10.3% of all visitors. New York is second, at 9.5%, and Texas is third, at 5.2%. The data, from fiscal 2013 travel research, are from Visit Florida's 138-page 2015-2016 marketing plan.

More than half of all visitors to Florida, 56%, come from 10 states, and Texas is the only one west of the Mississippi River. With 4.7% in each state, Ohio and Illinois tied for fifth, behind fourth-place New Jersey. Ohio trended up, the report shows, while Illinois trended down.

Chicago, despite the drop in its state, is the No. 3 feeder city for Florida, behind New York City and Atlanta. Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Detroit and Dallas make up the rest of what Visit Florida calls the Super Eight. Those eight markets account for 38% of Florida's total domestic-based visitors.
