Port expands capabilities with the new cargo area
Port Tampa Bay has opened a new cargo berth.
The $21 million multipurpose cargo yard at Eastport sits on 20 acres, according to a statement. It features 14-inch reinforced concrete and is designed as an all-purpose berth capable of handling container vessels, roll on/roll off activity and bulk materials.
Having room to grow significantly makes Port Tampa Bay unique among most other seaports nationwide, port officials add in the statement. It also ensures a strong capital investment and development plan into the future.

Law firm grows again, adds three attorneys
Williams Parker, one of the largest and most established firms in the Sarasota-Manatee region, has added three attorneys: Nicole Behar, Ryan Portugal and Daniel Tullidge.
Behar, a former assistant state's attorney, works in corporate and tax law; Portugal, who recently completed a clerkship with a federal magistrate in New York, works in real estate law; and Tullidge works in taxation, estate planning, and estate and trust administration.
Williams Parker, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2015, has grown significantly this year. In March, for example, the firm hired four attorneys and several legal staffers from Kunkel, Miller & Hament, which focused on labor and employment law. Williams Parker currently has around 50 total attorneys.
School opens second campus in region
NewGate School, an independent college-prep Montessori school, opened a campus on a five-acre site in east Manatee County.
The school's second campus is situated on the site of the former Center for Building Hope complex in Lakewood Ranch. The new campus will house the seventh to 12th grade students of NewGate's upper school, which offers a Montessori International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program. NewGate will continue to operate its Montessori preschool and elementary school from its Ashton Road campus in Sarasota, which was established in 1984.

Construction underway on senior living complex
Construction has begun on American House, a $20 million, 121,964-square-foot luxury senior living complex in Fort Myers.
Jacksonville-based LandSouth is building American House for the developer, Southfield, Mich.-based Redico, according to a statement. American House Senior Living Communities will manage the Tuscan-style, three-story complex scheduled to open in February 2018 at 14131 Metro Parkway.
The building will have 20 memory care residences, 39 independent living residences and 65 assisted-living residences, for a total of 124 units. Amenities include dining rooms and a health club, as well as a beauty salon with spa and massage room. Other amenities include a swimming pool, lounge areas, putting greens and a bocce ball court.
