Airport feels pinch in key traffic metric

FORT MYERS — Total takeoffs and landings at Southwest Florida International Airport fell slightly in November over November 2015.

The Fort Myers airport, in total, had 6,750 aircraft takeoffs and landings last month, a 2.3% drop from November 2015, according to a release.

Even with the drop, passenger traffic climbed slightly in November, up 1% year-over-year from November 2015. During the month, 727,634 passengers traveled through the airport, the statement adds. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 3% from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in November was Southwest, with 149,251 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. The other airlines in the top five were Delta (133,671 passengers), American (111,829), JetBlue (103,232) and Spirit (65,450).
