AmCap Inc. has acquired the Center of Bonita Springs shopping center for $52 million; it is the private equity firm's first Florida property.

The Stamford, Conn.-based firm, which owns a total of 28 retail properties in 15 states, acquired the Lee County center together with AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp., records show.

The 286,000-square-foot property, at 3300-3360 Bonita Beach Road S.W., was fully renovated two years ago. Upgrades included new lighting, parking, landscaping and façade work, as well as a new 54,000-square-foot store for anchor Publix Super Markets Inc.

The Bonita Springs purchase also marks the latest in an extended buying spree for AmCap. In the past two years, the company has invested $370 million to buy retail properties in Chicago; Washington, D.C.; and Denver.

Company officials did not return calls to discuss the future of the property.
